I wanted to get back to writing ABP.  I reread EVERYTHING we have online (took a while!).  OMG, the first book- the first half of it- I can't imagine why anyone read it!  It is the most awful writing ever- well maybe not the most, but darn close.  Seriously, if I was a reader, and faced with that, i'd not bother past the first few pages.  That said, it did get better.  And there were things I forgot about.  ANd Bug has been able to concentrate more to work together- maybe not as fast as before, but thats ok.  Still, I'm not sure if/when I'll be able to focus on writing again (see my last post- messed up sleep, not taking half my pain meds so Im in alot of pain, distracted by peopel in the house, etc), but at least its fresh in my mind now.

Oh god... our last update was Dec 2007 !???  *ashamed*

Perhaps it's time to move on to other things. A LOT of people have left Potter fandom since the books/movies have ended. Surely your time could be better spent developing a project of your own rather than rehashing old stuff that many people have lost interest in. I bet you have wonderful ideas for your own story featuring your own universe and characters.

Not one of the story's biggest fans? ;-)

No longer a fan of anything Harry Potter (same as most of the old ex-Potter fans that I know). The terrible last Potter book killed my interest in the Potter universe.

ABP is one of my favorite stories ever. If you guys want to get back into it, that would be great. If the muse has left you, I understand.

ABP is highwire fanfic without a net. I had no ability to predict what might happen next--no ability to judge where your limits as authors were, what you would never do, you know? It was intriguingly different almost from the start (after that first jostle where it goes from what seems like pretty run-of-the-mill crackfic into something much darker and deeper and more dangerous). I'm amazed how vividly I can recall so many scenes, scenes about absinthe and curses, rats and nasty books, Dumbledore and the cat under the couch.

I do think that the series has reached such a critical mass that it's going to be difficult for readers to pick it casually up again. The temptation for me would be to attempt to read any new parts without reviewing much of the preceding material, just because of the sheer time commitment, and that's not ideal. Though actually, perhaps it would be worth having someone put together a precis of the story to date, so that people can refresh their memories in an efficient way if they want to? The fic is a curious case, I think, because it is SO VIVID that rereading it doesn't feel quite right, you know? The last time I revisited it, I think it'd been a year, and parts of it still felt like I'd only been reading it a few days before. And yet obviously as time drifts by we must all lose our grips on the nuances of plot and characterisation.

I'd love to see the series finished, but I wouldn't want you to feel any guilt over not having officially finished what is already a massive achievement. But if you feel like working on it, you have a cheerleader. :-)

I've thought about a precis... i'm not sure about one thing though... there are clues in the story for whats planned for the future / end.... I am hoping most people have noticed them and wondered what was up with them (if only in passing), but maybe others just took it as a personality quirk in one case, or just fleshing out the scenery in another case, etc. Does that go in (and draw attention to it) or is it left out, so that when we get to the end, if people didn't read the fic itself and pick up the clues, stuff at the end will look like it came out of the blue?

Tricky question with no single right answer, I suspect. :-( I'd be inclined to leave out those kinds of clues, in the hopes that anyone who doesn't recall that level of detail and is surprised by how the story turns out is then motivated to go back and reread the whole thing when it's done to see what they missed. I don't think you need to worry too much about things looking like they came out of the blue; there's something in the way you write that says you have big plans I/we can only guess at. Then again, I suppose I may be unusual in that I rather enjoy being foxed every now and then as a reader. :-)

The other thing that might be useful is slightly more detail than the chapter headers currently give about what happens in each chapter, so that folks who want to reread selectively can more easily find what they need to revisit. A roadmap, really. But none of this is necessary. It's our problem as readers if we're daunted by the sheer amount of time needed to catch up. Just my two cents' worth. I hope you'll do what makes you most content.

well, I'm still haunted by the last line: "I step out of the unfinished heart." I have never encountered anything like ABP before in my life and I would be ecstatic if you were to bring it back to life.

I'd say: if the mood strikes, write! I will be the first one there reading. Though I do wish you and Bug well - I can see that things have not been easy for either of you.

I am not sure that you realize that so many people have loved your books. I have re-read ABS and sequels numerous times since I first found them about a year ago, and is the ONLY WIP I recommend on my fanfiction.com site (I rarely update my livejournal...). I love it and recommend it even with the occasional typos in the last few books :)

I just reread it again and was disheartened to find that no progress has been made since I finished it a few the last time.
If you decide to continue...I would be grateful and ecstatic!
