i was looking thru old LJ meta posts and curious... is fandom, especilly slash fandom, still seen by a significant percent as a 'safe place for (women born) women ONLY', anyone else being pretty much tresspassing / not to be trusted, their fic/art seen as not 'authentic' etc?  the meta was like 10 yrs old, and curious if this has changed or has stayed the same...?

I haven't seen that attitude in quite some time, although I prowl fandom spaces less than I used to. My sense is (from Tumblr) that a 'be who you are' ethic is standard - in speech at least.

again, I've not been very active lately, but the trends of tolerance among younger fandom give me hope for the human race.

I'm not too thrilled with my species atm - I've been studying Superfund sites and reading too much tRump news
